Welcome to Notifo!
Let's Start Hacking!
You've reached the advanced user setup page. Looking for the basic guide?
Your personal Notifo account has its own API Secret, which you may use the API to send notifications to yourself.
Service or Project?
Services have their own API credentials and are subject to the applicable pricing tier based on notifications sent. Services can be set public and get promoted on our services gallery, or private for your own users only. Once you have created a service, users give you their Notifo username. Your service then sends each user a subscription request which they must accept before they can receive any notifications you send.
A project on the other hand asks the user to provide their own username and API secret. Projects can only send notifications to that particular user. Notifo browser extensions are good examples of projects, as well others listed in the projects section here.
You will be taken to a Service Preferences page after you create a new service. Filling out these preferences is important. Here's an explanation of the requested fields:
-
Make Service Public?
Check this box to make your service public. Doing so means that Notifo will list and promote your service throughout the website. We are in the processing of creating a Service Profile page that is a prime example of why you might want to make your service public.
-
Update Service Icon
Upload your own custom avatar for your service. It will be shown on every page related to your service and everytime one of your subscribers receives a notification from the service.
-
Message Webhook URL
An optional setting if you would like to attach a webhook to your service.
-
Service Description
Use this field to briefly describe what your service does and how prospective subscribers can go about setting up and subscribing to your service.
Your current list of registered services is visible on the My Services page. From there you can access the dashboard for any of your services. The dashboard lists the API Username and API Secret for each service you own, in addition to general service stats and two tools: Notification Console and Subscribe Console.
The provided consoles serve as simple tools to manually send a notification to any user subscribed to your service as well as manually send subscription requests for your service to users. You do not need to have anything developed with the API to use the consoles so fire away! The notification console is currently being updated to allow for services to manually broadcast a notification to all subscribed users.
Meet the API
Now that you have created a created a new service and have your API Secret in hand, it's time to start hacking with the API!
